Few Hybrid Owners Buy Another Hybrid

Chevrolet Dealers In Los AngelesMost Hybrid Owners Don’t Buy Them Again, Polk Study Says - With gasoline prices out of control, many consumers are seeking relief by purchasing more fuel-efficient cars. There’s currently a growing selection of fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles to choose from. A new study has shown that when hybrid owners buy another car, they’re not buying another hybrid. Find out about other dealer services at Chevrolet Dealers In Los Angeles. The study, by auto information company R.L. Polk & Co., shows that although the number of hybrid models in the U.S. has more than doubled since 2007, only 35 percent of hybrid vehicle owners bought another hybrid when they bought another new car in 2011. When repeat hybrid purchases by extremely loyal Toyota Prius owners are factored out, hybrid loyalty drops to less than 25 percent.

While hybrid owners may not be buying another hybrid, they do appear to remain loyal to their brand when they return to the new car market. For example, according to Polk,in 2011, 60 percent of Toyota hybrid owners purchased another Toyota when they returned to the market, while 41 percent of them purchased another hybrid from any brand. “Having a hybrid in the product lineup can certainly give a brand a competitive edge when it comes to attracting new customers,” said Brad Smith, director of Polk’s Loyalty Management Practice. “The repurchase rates of hybrid vehicles are an indication that consumers are continuing to seek alternative solutions to high fuel prices.”

Kia Of Old Saybrook CT

When it comes to owners of Honda hybrids, more than 52 percent of them stuck with the Honda brand, while less than 20 percent of the group of Honda owners purchased another hybrid from any brand. Online cross-shopping data from Edmunds.com shows that potential auto buyers are doing research to compare hybrid vehicles with gasoline-powered cars in the same class. Kia Of Old Saybrook CT has all the information you need when purchasing a new car. For example, the Honda Civic is the second most cross-shopped car by consumers who are considering buying a Toyota Prius and Honda Insight.

“The lineup of alternate drive vehicles and their premium price points just aren’t appealing enough to consumers to give the segment the momentum it once anticipated, especially given the growing strength of fuel economy among compact and midsize competitors,” according to Lacey Plache, Edmunds.com chief economist. “For EVs and PHEVs in particular, certain obstacles – including consumer unease with unfamiliar technology and the lack of an adequate recharging infrastructure — will need to be overcome before sales increase.”

Genuine Lexus PartsPolk’s research shows that hybrid vehicles make up only 2.4 percent of the total new vehicle market in the U.S., down from a high of 2.9 percent in 2008. Toyota continues to lead in hybrid sales. According to Polk, volatility in gasoline prices between 2008 and 2011, which ranged from just under $2.00 per gallon to nearly $4.00 per gallon, didn’t have much impact on hybrid segment loyalty. Genuine Lexus Parts provides excellent service for new car shoppers. Polk’s study also found that consumers in traditionally green-minded areas of the U.S. where hybrid sales are strongest, such as Southern California, Seattle, and Portland Oregon, aren’t any more loyal to hybrid vehicles than people in other areas of the country.

Lexus, MINI Top Dealer Service Survey

Shreveport Volvo DealersJD Power Finds Lexus, MINI Service Highest Rated - If you want to have a better experience servicing your car, take it to the dealer. Those are the results of the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Customer Service Index (CSI) Study. According to the study, drivers who have their vehicles serviced at a dealership are more satisfied than when they take them to a non-dealer mechanic. Customers who use the dealer’s service center to have their cars serviced have a satisfaction rating of 787 points out of a possible 1,000 points. Find out about other dealer services at Shreveport Volvo Dealers. The satisfaction rating for customers who use non-dealer service centers have a satisfaction rating of 749 points. In addition, 79 percent of service visits by people who have owned their new cars between one and three years are through dealers’ service departments, up from 74 percent in 2011, and from 73 percent in 2010. In 2012 overall dealer service satisfaction improved 19 points over the previous year. Of 33 brands, 28 saw gains in service satisfaction, with eight brands seeing numbers up by 20 points or higher.

“Steady improvements in vehicle quality, longer intervals between recommended service visits and a higher mix of maintenance service events have had a positive effect on overall dealer service satisfaction,” said Chris Sutton, senior director at J.D. Power and Associates. “Moreover, manufacturers and their dealers have instituted broad-based customer service improvement initiatives to increase satisfaction with both the purchase experience and after-sales service, with the understanding that a substandard service occasion can and will impact their ability to make a future vehicle sale or gain repeat service business.”

Providence Honda

The J.D. Power and Associates study examines vehicle owners’ satisfaction of maintenance or repair work performed at a service department. They based rankings on the quality of the work that was done over the course of the initial three years of the life of a new vehicle, which usually corresponds to the most of the vehicle’s warranty coverage. Five criteria are used to determine overall customer satisfaction: service quality, service initiation, service advisor, service facility, and vehicle pick-up. Providence Honda has all the information you need when purchasing a new car. For the fourth consecutive year, Lexus ranks highest in customer satisfaction among luxury automakers, with a total CSI score of 861 points. The other top-five brands are Cadillac (852), Jaguar (849), Acura (838), and Porsche (836). Audi showed the greatest improvement of the luxury brands, up 34 points from the previous year.

Among mass market brands, MINI ranked highest for the second year in a row, with a score of 809. The other brands that made it to the top five were Buick (805), GMC (803), Chevrolet (801), and Hyundai (791). The mass market brands that saw the greatest improvement from 2011 were Nissan (up 43) and Toyota (up 31). J.D. Power sees slow auto sales during the collapsed economy causing a decline in service volumes through 2013 before coming back. According to the company, the challenge to automakers is to continue to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction once customer traffic increases. The study offers suggestions that dealerships can use to continue to provide the same high level of customer satisfaction, no matter the volume of service.

Greenwood Used CarsThe first suggestion is for dealers to offer online scheduling of service appointments and to encourage customers to scheduling their appointments online. According to J.D. Power, customers who schedule appointments online are more satisfied with the service experience than customers who schedule appointments by telephone or who show up at the service center without an appointment. In addition, customers who make service appointments online spend $36 more per year on service than customers without an appointment, and $17 more per year than customers who schedule their appointments over the phone. Greenwood Used Cars provides excellent service for new car shoppers. The next recommendation is to go over the inspection report with all service customers. Customers who said their service advisor reviewed the multi-point inspection report with them were more likely to say they “definitely will” repurchase or lease the same vehicle make than customers who didn’t receive a report review, and more likely to say they “definitely will” return to the dealer for both paid and warranty service work. The third suggestion is to offer a free maintenance program, as customers will be more likely to return to the dealership when the complimentary maintenance expires, compared to dealerships that don’t provide this type of program.

Advanced Auto Technologies Seen On More Vehicles

Atlantic City FordAAA Announces Latest Technology Trends - Automobiles have come a long way since the days when the latest in technology features meant a built-in cigarette lighter and an AM radio. Today, auto manufacturers have launched a new generation of advanced technologies intended to make driving both easier and more safe. Find out about other dealer services at Atlantic City Ford. The AAA has issued a new report that concludes that the technology features that were formerly only available to drivers of luxury vehicles will become more prevalent in cars of different price ranges, especially as manufacturing costs go down. The new features include safety technologies as well as systems that will increase performance and allow cars to be friendlier to the environment.

“Technologies like anti-lock braking and stability control were once seen as pioneering innovations and are now required or standard features,” said John Nielsen, AAA’s Director of Automotive Engineering and Repair. “Looking to the future, we hope the cost for these technologies continues to come down, allowing more drivers to enjoy the safety, economy, and performance they provide.” AAA warns that the proliferation of technology features can have drawbacks. “These new technologies can be distracting to a driver. It’s important to comply with the guidelines provided for their use and most importantly keep driving your car the number one focus while operating the vehicle,” Nielsen said.

New Haven Honda Dealers

What follows is a rundown of the new technology systems that AAA believes will be in wider use. Brake Assist is currently a standard feature in many new cars, trucks, and SUVs. Brake assist is able to sense panic stops and will automatically apply the brakes, even when the driver hasn’t applied enough pressure to stop the car. While brake assist isn’t a very new technology (it’s been around since the mid-1990s), it’s now gaining wider implementation. New Haven Honda Dealers has all the information you need when purchasing a new car. Parking Proximity Warning Systems and Backup Cameras warn drivers about objects that may be in the way and help them see where the vehicle’s going. Parking warning systems use sensors to detect people, animals, and objects, that may not be visible to the driver because they’re in the vehicle’s blind spot. Backup cameras show the driver what’s behind the car when it’s backing up. Both of these technology features are becoming more common on mid-price vehicles.

Lane Departure Warning Systems were originally offered on the most expensive Infinity models but are now becoming available on other cars. Lane departure systems are able to sense the lane markings on the road and can alert the driver when the vehicle crosses lanes without signaling. The warning can take the form of a sound or a vibration the driver can feel on the steering wheel. Active Cruise Control uses radar or laser technology to sense the distance of the car ahead and can maintain a safe following distance. If traffic slows down, the system can reduce the car’s speed. Some systems are capable of applying brakes and even stop the car completely if traffic comes to a stop.

Fond Du Lac Car DealersStop-Start technology is usually found on hybrid vehicles. The stop-start system cuts the gasoline engine when the car idles (such as when it stops for a traffic light), which saves gas and reduces emissions. Kia is planning to introduce a stop-start system on non-hybrid vehicles like the Rio and Soul. The Driver Alert Warning System senses when the driver stops paying attention to the road or is fatigued. Detection methods include using cameras to monitor the driver’s movements and sensing when the driver isn’t staying in lane. The system is able to alert the driver to take a break, if necessary. Fond Du Lac Car Dealers provides excellent service for new car shoppers. Blind Spot Warning Systems use a camera or radar to warn the driver that another vehicle is driving in his blind spot. If the driver attempts to switch lanes without signaling, the system will send an audible alert or use flashing lights.

California Reports Fewer Fatalities After Hand-Held Cell Ban

Jaguar Dealer BirminghamHand-Held Cell Phone Ban Translates Into Fewer Auto Fatalities in CA - Our readers know that we’ve written about distracted driving and the dangers of driving while texting and talking on hand-held cell phones. The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has announced that since the state enacted a law prohibiting drivers from using cell phones while driving, the number of deaths that have been attributed to the use of hand-held cell phones has been reduced. Find out about other dealer services at Jaguar Dealer Birmingham. The Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (SafeTREC) at the University of California, Berkeley conducted the research. When analysts looked at California crash records two years before and two years after the law took effect, they found that traffic fatalities went down 22 percent overall, while fatalities attributed to hand-held cell phone use dropped 47 percent.

“These results suggest that the law banning hand-held cell phone use while driving had a positive impact on reducing traffic fatalities and injuries,” said Dr. David Ragland, Director of SafeTREC. But while state officials are pleased with the results, some are concerned that distracted driving still remains a problem. “While we are thrilled to see that the hand-held ban in California has worked to reduce distracted driving crashes and overall cell phone use, there are still far too many drivers talking and texting while driving,” said Christopher J. Murphy, Director for the California Office of Traffic Safety. “A good step for parents is to never call or text your kids if you think they might be driving.”

Honda Ontario

One of the reasons that the number of deaths and injuries from cell phone dropped was because of the reduction of the number of people using cell phones behind the wheel. A study funded by the federal government conducted in 2011 concluded that 40 percent of California drivers responded that since the hand-held cell phone ban was instituted, they used hand-held and hands-free mobile phones less frequently while driving. Honda Ontario has all the information you need when purchasing a new car. The survey findings were similar to results of a telephone study performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) that found that in states with hand-held cell phone bans, 44 percent of drivers said they didn’t use mobile phones while driving, compared with 30 percent in states that didn’t prohibit drivers from using hand-held mobile phones. A majority of drivers in California said they considered mobile phones and driving to be a major safety problem, with 62 percent of those polled saying that they thought people texting and talking on cell phones is the biggest safety problem on California’s roads, and 84 percent responding that talking on mobile phones and texting while driving are the most serious distractions to drivers.

From a law enforcement perspective, the California Department of Motor Vehicles reports that the state had 460,487 in 2011, up 22 percent from 2010 and up 52 percent from 2009. Motorists who had to pay fines found that the cost of a first offense was $159, with subsequent offenses costing $279. “Highly visible and publicized enforcement, along with the cooperation of the motoring public to reduce distractions behind the wheel, has played a significant role in the reduction in collisions,” said California Highway Patrol (CHP) Commissioner Joe Farrow. “In addition, there are many educational programs developed by the CHP, our allied agencies, as well as non-profit organizations such as Impact Teen Drivers that have made sustained efforts in reducing distracted driving.”

Chevrolet HartfordThe California Office of Traffic Safety conducted the first statewide observational cell phone study in the United States. The study showed that nine percent of drivers were either talking or texting behind the wheel. This figure means that at any given time, there are hundreds of thousands of drivers in the state distracted by their mobile phones. Chevrolet Hartford provides excellent service for new car shoppers. Statistics show that drivers who use hand-held mobile phones are four times more likely to get into a collision that’s bad enough to cause injury. The state of California has initiated a public awareness promotion called “It’s Not Worth It!” that uses TV and radio commercials, billboards, Internet, and social media. Additionally, the state has 652 permanent changeable message signs that display a “Handheld Cell Ticket – $159 – It’s Not Worth It” message periodically during the course of a year.

Record Gas Prices Create Demand For Fuel-Efficiency In New Cars

Toyota Dealer PhoenixConsumers Turning to Fuel-Efficient Vehicles To Offset Gas Prices - It’s no surprise that Americans are looking to cut costs in these tough economic times. Restaurants are suffering because people can’t afford to dine out as much as they used to. Consumers are holding onto their money and spending less. Some are cutting costs by skipping that expensive cup of coffee at the coffee shop. Many people find that shopping with grocery store coupons helps make their money go farther. Find out about other dealer services at Toyota Dealer Phoenix. Others are cutting premium cable TV channels or even getting rid of cable altogether. When soaring gas prices are added to a bad economy, many American car buyers find that trading in their old gas-guzzling cars and SUVs for a fuel-efficient model is a good idea. For its part, the auto industry has been paying attention and upping the fuel economy on new car models. Edmunds.com reports that fuel economy has increased by 16 percent.

Auto manufacturers realize that that if they don’t pay attention to fuel economy, they do so at their own peril. “The American consumer shopping for a new car is seeing the most fuel-efficient lineup of vehicles ever while manufacturers are keeping the product just as exciting,” said Jesse Toprak, Vice President of Market Intelligence at TrueCar.com. “Ford’s average fuel economy increased by almost 5 MPG, which is quite staggering and much of the credit goes to the Fusion and Focus, along with its new lineup of six-cylinder large trucks.”

Honda Dealer Richardson

Automotive valuation company Kelley Blue Book analyzed the data for new cars and uncovered the models that are the most fuel-efficient and have a five-year cost to operate of $30,000 or less. The five cars with the lowest cost of operation are the Nissan Versa Sedan ($25,818 ownership cost and $11,770 MSRP), Hyundai Accent GLS ($27,743 ownership cost and $13,320 MSRP), Kia Soul Hatchback ($28,131 ownership cost and $14,650 MSRP), Toyota Yaris Hatchback ($28,167 ownership cost and $14,875 MSRP), and Mazda2 Sport Hatchback ($28,457 ownership cost and $15,325 MSRP). Honda Dealer Richardson has all the information you need when purchasing a new car. The Honda Insight had the highest fuel economy, rated at 41 mpg city/44 mpg highway and 42 mpg combined. Other cars that made the list are the Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Fiesta, Honda Civic, Honda Fit, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Rio, Mazda3, Scion xD, Toyota Corolla, and Volkswagen Jetta.

“When it comes to purchasing an automobile, consumers need to think long term to determine all of the costs associated with owning a vehicle,” said Alec Gutierrez, senior market analyst of automotive insights for Kelley Blue Book. “It is simple enough to estimate monthly payments or even the cost of fuel on a short-term basis; however, the cost of insurance, maintenance, and repairs are far more difficult to obtain on a case-by-case basis. Kelley Blue Book provides this helpful information for free on kbb.com with its Total Cost of Ownership data for new cars.”

Ford San JoseKelley Blue Books’s results are based in the most inexpensive trim levels for each model, so potential buyers may not find all the features or options they want. Many buyers will decide to add options or go for a higher trim level. “We featured only the most affordable trims available for each vehicle on our list, so some creature comforts and amenities may not be available at these bargain basement prices,” said Gutierrez. “Consumers can always opt to spend a little more to jump up a trim or two to get all of the features they want, but those determined to spend as little as possible on a new vehicle need look no further than this list.” Ford San Jose provides excellent service for new car shoppers. Buyers also need to take into account the fact that the cars with the smallest cost to own may not be the most attractive or reliable, or the best for their needs. We advise using this data along with trusted auto reviews, such as those found on Edmunds.com or kbb.com.

Survey Says Rocky Road For Electric Cars

Ford Dealership Grand RapidsElectric Cars Won’t Make Inroads Short-Term - Although electric vehicle technology has come a long way, the internal combustion engine will be with us for some time. That’s the conclusion of KPMG’s 13th annual Global Automotive Executive Survey, which was released in February. Further dealer resources available at Ford Dealership Grand Rapids. According to the survey, improvements in fuel efficiency and performance in gasoline-powered engines will ensure they will remain in use for the near future. Nearly two-thirds of the survey’s respondents said that over the next five years, internal combustion engine optimization will offer greater efficiency and provide the greatest potential for reducing carbon emissions. While gasoline engines will continue to be utilized in the short-term, the study says that automobile manufacturers will continue to invest in electric vehicle technology as part of their long-term approach.

“The need for new electric propulsion technology is still top of mind for auto executives around the world given the demand that will be felt in the emerging markets,” said Peter Hatges, Partner, KPMG and Lead of KPMG’s Automotive practice. “Automotive companies will continue to invest heavily in electric propulsion and will play a leadership role in the development of these emerging technologies going forward. The race is on, but there is no clear winner at this point.” However, the survey also found that electromobility still has a long way to go before it will be able to replace the traditional internal combustion engine. Almost two-thirds of the executives surveyed believe that electric car sales won’t make up more than 15% of new car sales worldwide by 2025. In the short term, automotive executives expect electric car adoption to be between 6 percent and 10 percent of global annual sales.

Dodge Dealerships In Washington State

While the automotive industry continues to consider the positive and negative aspects of electric-vehicle technologies, it’s expected that competition among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and battery technology product manufacturers (battery chemistry, battery management, battery cells and packs, etc.) is expected to explode. Just over half of the respondents think that suppliers of electric component will have a larger role by 2025, and 40 percent of respondents believe that OEMs will also play a leading role in traditional powertrain technologies. Dodge Dealerships In Washington State offers complete services for all your automotive dealership needs. The study also concludes that while manufacturers may develop vehicles designed for driving in urban areas, many drivers prefer not to own cars, opting instead for car sharing services or other intelligent mobility services, which are expected to become a major trend in the next 10-50 years.

“Electromobility is a colossal issue for the industry,” said Hatges. “The key automotive players should have a clearer vision on this, even though how and when fully electric cars will be a reality is dependent on a variety of complex and interrelated factors.” That’s not to say that the gasoline engine is going away anytime soon. According to Hatges, “How and when fully electric cars will be a reality is dependent on a variety of complex and interrelated factors.”

NY RV DealersEighty percent of the survey respondents expected that China would continue to be the largest auto market in both sales and production in 2016. The United States is projected as being the second-largest market, with Brazil and India vying for number three. The KPMG survey makes no noteworthy mention of the role of hybrid cars, even though many new cars will have a gas-electric hybrid option. NY RV Dealers is a one stop source for all your new car needs. KPMG interviewed 200 C-class automotive executives across the globe, for the KPMG Global Automotive Executive Survey 2012, including 25 from North America. Respondents included auto manufacturers and suppliers, and the surveys were performed from October through November, 2011. KPMG has released an annual survey of automotive executives expressing their views on the auto industry since 1999.

Americans Holding Onto Cars Longer, Survey Shows

Hyundai Dealers CaliforniaLength Of Time Of Car Ownership Hits Record High - If you’ve delayed purchasing a new vehicle because it’s too costly right now, a new survey shows you’re not alone. The survey, commissioned by Polk, found that American car owners are hanging on to their vehicles longer than ever before. In the third quarter of 2011, the average length of ownership of cars and trucks purchased new increased to a record high of 71 months. Further dealer resources available at Hyundai Dealers California. Similarly, car owners who bought their vehicles used are now holding on to their cars for a record high of 50 months. The increase in average vehicle ownership length started trending upward in the fourth quarter of 2008, when the economy began to decline. Americans who found themselves facing unemployment, home foreclosures, and the dwindling availability of credit had to put off buying new cars. Between the third quarter of 2008 and today, the average length of vehicle ownership has continued to increase.

The trend toward increased vehicle ownership times appears to go counter to forecasts predicting that new car sales will rise in 2012. According to Lonnie Miller, Vice President, Marketing & Industry Analysis at Polk, “…despite a longer average vehicle retention period, new sales can also grow. The trick in understanding this concept is realizing that many American households have more than one vehicle. So the replacement behavior to buy another vehicle can also occur while an older car or truck sits in the driveway.” Miller said the problem for dealers is to win customer back when they decide to buy again. “According to earlier consumer research, customer loyalty to a brand can decline the longer someone holds their vehicle,” he said. “So long retention periods, particularly among single vehicle-owning households, can be a threat when it comes to the choice of staying with the same vehicle brand.

Houston Honda Dealers

As of July 2011, the average age of vehicles on the road hit a record 10.8 years. The Polk study found that although credit restrictions have eased up, consumers are still holding onto their vehicles longer than ever because they aren’t confident about making large purchases due to other economic indicators such as the weak job market. Houston Honda Dealers offers complete services for all your automotive dealership needs. Many buyers are financing cars and trucks for longer time periods in order to lower their monthly payments. Longer finance periods lead to longer ownership cycles. Increased durability of modern vehicles has led consumers to be more comfortable holding onto their cars longer. In addition, auto manufacturers such as Hyundai now provide longer warranties, which mitigates the risk of hanging onto older cars and trucks.

The increased length of vehicle ownership has other implications for various segments of the automobile industry. Auto parts stores have benefitted as more drivers attempt to save money by repairing their own vehicles. Polk cites a recent study that shows that over 75 percent of customers who go to mechanics to have their cars repaired would try to repair their own vehicles to save money. Polk also predicts that new light vehicle sales in the United States will climb upward during the next few years and will reach pre-downturn levels of 16 million by 2015. As the economy improves, more customers who have been waiting to buy a new vehicle will make purchases, although this doesn’t mean that the average length of ownership will suddenly drop. Polk says that with unemployment still high and people still suffering from the effects of the bad economy, it will take a few years for the trend of longer ownership to return to previous levels.

Ford Dealers In AlbuquerqueBecause car owners are holding onto their cars longer, there’s less of a supply of pre-owned cars. Combined with the shortage of used cars created by the cash for clunkers program and a low supply of off-lease cars, indications are that the price of used cars will continue to remain high for some time, which will be good for used car dealers. Polk suggests that new car dealers can benefit from higher used car prices by converting used car buyers into new car buyers. Ford Dealers In Albuquerque is a one stop source for all your new car needs. Companies that provide extended warrantees can take advantage of the trend toward increased vehicle ownership times since more car owners are driving their cars after the manufacturer’s original warranty has expired.

Auto Sales Expected To Increase This Year

Body Shop RichmondAuto Dealers May See Banner Year In 2012 - 2012 could be a record year for car dealers in sales per dealership, according to John Frith, vice president of Urban Science, an automotive industry consulting firm. Urban Science’s newly released Automotive Franchise Activity Report shows a modest rise in the number of dealerships in the United States after two years of declining numbers. Further dealer resources available at Body Shop Richmond. As of December 31, 2011, there were 17,767 dealerships in the country, a 0.6 percent increase from 2010. The return of the Fiat brand was responsible for adding 135 dealerships in 2011, and Chrysler brands added 50 dealerships. Other automakers saw increases in dealerships, but in smaller numbers.

The states that saw the largest increases of dealerships were: California (31 dealers), New Jersey (10 dealers), Ohio and Florida (nine dealers each), Texas (eight dealers) Virginia and North Carolina (seven dealers each), and Pennsylvania, (six dealers). “We have a stabilized, right-sized dealership network that has increased year-over-year for only the second time since we started this census,” said Frith. “Automakers and dealers are in a good, profitable position. To maintain that momentum and keep profitability high, they will need to resist the urge to abandon the expense controls and processes instituted the past few years.”

The amount of franchises in America, (“franchises” are the various brands a car dealership sells), declined from 30,098 to 29,380 in 2011, a decrease of 2.4 percent. The decrease is considered to be the consequence of losing the Mercury brand. Urban Science’s analysis shows that based on 2011 vehicle sales of 12.8 million, throughput (“throughput” refers to the average number of sales per dealership) was up by about 10 percent between 2010 and 2011, with 656 and 719 respectively. Mazda Of Manchester offers complete services for all your automotive dealership needs. Urban Science says that if auto sales match or surpass the projection of 13.95 million sales for 2012, throughput could reach a new record that would surpass the current record of 784 set in 2005.

“This year, the key issue for many dealers will be figuring out how to handle a continuing sales influx,” added Frith. “This will shift more focus on ensuring that dealerships are meeting the automakers’ standards for staff, space, facility upgrades, policies and procedures.” “Dealers need to continue to focus on the online lead channel as an important source of sales because this growing space is here for the long term,” said Jody Stidham, global practice director, Urban Science. “We currently see as much as 30 percent of OEM retail sales originating from Internet leads. With more than 30 percent of customers submitting a request to at least two dealers, competition is increasing for dealers. As such, it will become more important for dealers to provide a quick, quality response to capture those sales.”

Honda TXAccording to Urban Science, if sales increase as expected, it will most likely drive increased online traffic to dealers as consumers research different vehicles and prices before making a trip to the dealer’s showroom. Urban Science analyzed client data and estimates that the volume of leads is likely to increase by as much as 15-20 percent. The average dealer may get 85 leads per brand per month, which is up from 75 leads per dealer per month in 2011. Honda TX is a one stop source for all your new car needs. Urban Science’s look at lead management best practices indicates that auto dealers will need to make sure their online customer responses contain the following important elements: quoting a price, responding quickly to customers, providing a choice of vehicles in the same price range, confirming that the requested vehicle is available in a variety of offerings, and offers the customer next steps like calling or stopping in for a test drive.

Consumers Warming to Mobile Devices In Cars

Used Jeep Dealers In CTStudy: Portable Media Devices Make Inroads In Cars - The uptick in auto sales over the last year and the increase of the sales of mobile phones such as Apple’s iPhone and digital media players like the iPod appear to go hand-in-hand. The profusion of new features and services available on these portable devices means that more drivers and passengers will be using them inside their vehicles. Further dealer resources available at Used Jeep Dealers In CT. A recent study by the NPD Group, entitled Mobile CE: A Look Inside the Vehicle, said that 84 percent of car owners also own a portable device that will play digital media and 79 percent use their portable digital device in their car. According to the NPD Group, in 2011, American consumers spent over $170 million on technology that allows media players to be integrated into cars.

The study found that instead of replacing traditional audio devices such as the car’s in-dash radio or CD player, the digital media players are used in addition to them. In fact, almost two-thirds (73 percent) of drivers said they still use their FM radio “always” or “most of the time” while driving, while over half (57 percent) of drivers reported that the presence of a CD player is an important deciding factor when buying an audio or entertainment system for the car. “Traditional radio and CD audio remain firmly entrenched in the vehicle from both a device and entertainment standpoint,” said Ben Arnold, NPD’s director of industry analysis. “But as ownership of mobile devices, digital content, and apps expands, consumers will be looking for ways to customize the in-vehicle environment with content and services.”

In addition to playing digital media files, smartphones feature 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi, allowing consumers to stream digital audio and video in their vehicle. Thirty eight percent of smartphone owners reported connecting to a music streaming service such as Spotify, Pandora, and Last.fm from inside their vehicles. Analysts conclude that this indicates listening to and watching streaming content wirelessly in cars is bound to become more prevalent. Used Jeeps For Sale In CT offers complete services for all your automotive dealership needs. As digital music and streaming audio replace physical media such as CDs in the home, the same trend will likely occur inside the car. The methods of connecting digital media devices vary, with 18 percent of vehicle owners using an auxiliary input in their car’s audio system, and 11 percent using a USB port.

“The key is for auto makers and traditional audio manufacturers to facilitate consumer use of connected devices in the vehicle, allowing content from the smartphone, tablet, or digital media player to easily stream or be controlled through the deck mounted in the dashboard,” Arnold said. “We’re only going to see greater consumer attachment to social media, streaming audio and video, and other services as content options grow.” The report concludes that integration of digital devices in the car will increase, particularly through the in-dash audio system. According to NPD’s Retail Tracking Service, while only 13 percent of vehicle owners have cars with built-in Bluetooth or mobile phone connectivity, 42 percent of the in-dash players sold in 2011 featured Bluetooth. Although automakers have introduced wireless connectivity auto services such as Ford Sync and Chevrolet’s MyLink, adoption of these types of services is likely to be slow until they become more widespread and less expensive.

Jeep EverettAs the adoption of mobile devices inside cars becomes more commonplace, automobile manufacturers will have to find ways to allow drivers to stay safe while controlling them. Voice recognition similar to Apple’s Siri is becoming increasingly popular and may be required to enable drivers to access media and apps on their phones and digital media players. Jeep Everett is a one stop source for all your new car needs. While auto manufacturers introduce more technology features, safety advocacy groups say they create distractions that will cause more accidents. They maintain that research shows even hands-free phone and entertainment systems are distracting. It appears that the federal government is staying out of the controversy, at least for the moment, but it’s expected that local legislators will examine whether these systems will allow vehicles to be operated safely.
